A Guide to Using LED Modules for Your Retail Signage

1 October 2024

Now that we know that LEDs are becoming increasingly popular in the commercial sector (in case you missed it, read it here), let us guide you in exploring a variety of ways you can use LED modules for your retail signage.

LED Modules for Outdoor Signs

There are several ways you can use LED modules for your outdoor signage. Depending on your application, here are some ideas for you:

  • LED modules for signboards – these signs usually show the name or the logo of the store, and do not require changing or updating. Signboards can either be back-lit or edge-lit, sometimes called side-lit.

For back-lit, the LED modules are placed from behind the signboard. This is a popular option for translucent materials. For edge-lit or side-lit, the LED module is placed along the edges of a sign. This is often applied to thinner signs and LBY YF12GD3 is a suitable model.

Using LEDs for signboards allows the image to be displayed in bright and uniform lighting, with less heat emitted, and reduced electricity consumed. Since LEDs produce less heat, deterioration of the signboard is minimised, therefore prolonging your investment.

  • Pylon and monument signs - LED modules are compact and durable, which make them suitable for free-standing signs that are often placed along the roads to attract passing motorists. LED modules can be integrated on one or both sides of these signs to make them visible from a distance.

LED Modules for Indoor Signs

  • LED modules for channel letters – LED modules like LBY ZE01BA3 can be used for channel letters to make the store name and logo stand out, especially at night. These modules can be installed at the back or on the side of the letters. If the letter is thick, another suitable option could be the LBY ZE04BA3.

  • LED modules for cabinet signs – a cabinet sign is the traditional term for box-type signs with single or dual displays, made from plastic or a combination of metal and plastic. These types of signage are often used to identify specific brands where there a variety of options in a single location, such as food courts, department stores, and appliance centres.

  • Light box for menu boards - In restaurants and cafes, LED-lit menu boards are used to display menu items and prices. These boards are bigger, easy to read and can be updated as needed.
